A large portion of this electorate is going to return their ballots before Week 1. Overall, 70% of the Primary electorate will vote before election day.
Registered Democrats and unaffiliated voters who turned out in at least one of the last three Democratic primaries (2020, 2022, or 2024), along with recent Democratic registrants, need to read in the mail as soon as May 19th and see online as soon as May 26th that at a time when our rights are under attack, we need a Democrat in Congress who they can trust to actually fight for us, and that’s Marlene Galán-Woods, not Amish Shah.
Specifically, they need to learn that:
- Marlene is a truth-teller who has held the powerful accountable as a journalist and is ready to do the same with MAGA extremists in Washington.
- The Democrats we trust – like Attorney General Kris Mayes, Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, former Governor Janet Napolitano, and labor unions – have looked at the candidates and all endorsed Marlene because they believe she’s the Democrat who will hold Trump accountable for abusing power and hurting Arizona.
- Meanwhile, Amish Shah’s own Democratic colleagues say he cannot be trusted to stand up for us or against MAGA.
- In the state house, Shah sold us out to extreme Republicans. He was the only House Democrat to vote with Republicans to block access to contraception and kick eligible Arizonans off the voter rolls. He also worked with Republicans to make it easier to force conversion therapy on young Arizonans.
Alternative approaches to talking about Marlene that could be tested say the following, given cost of living and democracy are so important these days. It’s important that each is paired with the endorsers statement from above and highlighted again below:
- Galán-Woods’ parents fled communist Cuba to give her a better life. She understands firsthand the threat of an out-of-control dictator and knows how sacred democracy is. Galán-Woods is running for Congress because she can’t sit back and watch Donald Trump and his MAGA allies attack our freedoms and liberties.
- Galán-Woods grew up around her immigrant parents’ small business. She took out loans and waited tables to pay for college. She knows the tough decisions Arizonans are forced to make to get by. Galán-Woods will hold Donald Trump and his corporate cronies accountable for spiking our costs, and ensure families can afford to live here in Arizona.
